DjVu Reader Examine App

je regrette mon achat

Lapplication nest pas fluide, mal conçue et peu ergonomique. La lecture de fichier volumineux (+1000 pages) est très très lente. Une grosse mise à jour est nécessaire !

Ca plante

Achat inutile, application instable.

Merci

Merci pour la correction . Excellente application. Un grand bravo au développeur.

Some DjVu files no longer readable

After the latest update some djvu files can only be read in few pages. Then it turns blank. Do not update if you have not done it yet.

Seems to work well.

Seems to work well. Would be nice to be able to see thumbnails of pages.

Mr

Do not waste your money. The app does not work well. It is unstable and has a lot of bugs. To list two: it does not recognize some folders in the dropbox, and the icon of the file in the folders’ menu keep disappearing. The app has potencial, but much work must be done before it is usable.

Confusing

Earlier versions were great, it was the best djvu reader for me. But after updating I've gotten an awful piece of ****, for 6 bucks I paid for it earlier.

Ridiculously buggy. Unusable.

I'm uninstalling this application from my iPad. Previous versions were rough over edges, but usable. The new version won't allow you to read long documents, as it will allow to swipe only three pages; it will confuse documents (it will open a different document than the one requested or worst delete a different document), and it will crash at the slightest provocation.

Update 2.0.8: Documents' outlines completely disappeared

The outlines of my docs all disappeared. What an annoying update. Could you app maker fix this bug pls?

Still broken on iPad 3 (with no ios upgrades)

The current version (2.0.7) is practically unusable on iOS 5 - too many annoying bugs. This is just sad, since this app was the only choice for reading djvu on iPad 3 without iOS upgrade.

Broken

You guys totally broke it. The navigation controls are gone, the page swiping is buggy, slow and crashes the app, the setting to turn off swiping does not work. It went from a great app to a total piece of crap I can't use because it's slow as hell and crashes all the time.

Lame user interface

The page display and page turn are very inconvenient to use. Continuous page display is fine, but being continuous in the horizontal direction? Has the develop him/herself ever tried to read this way? Already asked for a refunding.

Crashes

Used to have a bug upon leaving the app( brightness going down), but with the update, that bug got replaced with a different one-it crashes when I open any djvu book.Defeats the purpose.

Terrible update

Awful new continuous image display, with, seemingly, no way to go back to the older page display. I say seemingly because trying to change configuration settings makes the app crash! This is the second time there's been a disasterous update. Do some comprehensive QA testing before putting out releases!

Improved

The latest version has fixed many serious problems present before making this the best available software for reading djvu files.

NEVER worked only CRASHES

I did try to find a contact email, no luck, AND I read the "HELP" page...no luck...am running IOS 7.4 on a 1 yr old iPad with 33gig left in the memory. App crashes IMMEDIATELY on opening...so I tried to open a DjVu doc...same thing IMMEDIATE CRASH. WASTE OF MONEY.

Still crash in the new release

Strong doubt whether the developer did test before they made new release. It always crash during setting! Apple App Store will die in predictable time if they allow such poor quality Apps shown here!

awful

what the hell is this? there are more ways to make this app crash than there are buttons in the menu... To name a few: it crashes when you scroll through the document quickly; if you zoom in, you cannot zoom out anymore! that's an embarassing product for any self-respecting app developer. As a fellow developer, let me give you advice: rollback to the previous version ASAP! you can call it version 3.0 if you like:-)

Disappointed!

I was excited after seeing the details of the latest update but it turned out to be a disaster. -very unstable -cannot turn off the useless and choppy horizontal continuous scroll -the new document browser is ugly, perhaps trying to be GoodReader

Do not upgrade to this version!

This upgrade crashes every few pages on my iPad 3 running iOS 7.0.2, so the app became largely useless. I suggest not upgrading until the bugs are fixed. Selecting "activate paging" in the configuration panel crashes the app immediately. Zooming or even flipping pages can either crash the app or freeze with a gray screen. The new interface is an improvement, although the blue colored controls in the reading mode are visually distracting. In summary, it is a disastrous update.

Bad update!

The latest version crashes when trying to change settings. Also, I don't like the continuous page views. The old version was much better and easier to use. Please bring back the old version or fix the new one!

Brightness issue

This is a great app for opening djvu files in a fast way without any conversion. However, the app has an issue the "luminosity" setting. Every time I open the app (or switch from another app to the djvu reader), the screen brightness switches to the level defined in the "luminosity" option in settings, regardless of how bright the screen was before opening the app. For example, if the screen had a 0.8 brightness before opening the app, when you switch to the app the brightness changes to whatever value is defined in the "luminosity" setting. This can be pretty annoying. I wrote to the developer asking about this issue. Let's see.

What

Okay app except for the fact that search doesn't work at all for PDFs and only works pagewise on djvu files along with a few crashes. What's the point of a digital copy if you can't search?

Good app

I live on this app as a graduate student and over all I prefer it to the apple djvu reader. It would be nice if its interface wasn't from the 1970's, but in a way it makes the app only more endearing. My only complaints are the advance ten page button is kind of small so you often accidentally skip to the end of a doc, and it is dangerously easy to accidentally erase documents whilst editing with no recourse in case a mistake is made... Still, I use it for hundreds of research papers, so Id say buy it.

Asking Nth time could you plz make it

..remember document list position and show docs in a bookshelf with names and covers where I could assign particular thumbnail page?

Great

Very great reader

dead and never comes back!

after opening one of my djvu files, it was dead and never comes back!

Trash!

It crashes when yo try to create folders and organize things. One has to keep all items in flat structure. Don't even try this crap.

Some basic things missing

This app needs (1) two page display in landscape mode, (2) automatic orientation upon rotating the iPad, (3) continuous zoom and scrolling, (4) page transitions. Most of the free PDF apps (eg Adobe reader) have these things. As it is the usability of this app is sub-par. I actually don't mind the price so long as these things get implemented, this app has the potential to be great.

Well though out application

This application is by far the best reader for pdf's out there, for me a critical feature is retaining zoom and position while still easily turning pages, and Djvu Reader is the only reader that does this! Then Dropbox and FTP server methods of transfer is the icing on the cake.

Application doesn't work properly

Impossible to get to the next the page with arrows, but only using "go to" option. I'm very disappointed with this application.

Works like a charm

This update fixed the vertical scrolling bug and now Djvu Reader is back to being excellent. You can convert your heavy .pdf files to .djvu and read them with ease on this app. The only request I have is to make the app available on iPhone as well for super-convenience. All hail to the developer!

6 dollars??

Pros: You don't always need a wifi connection to import files. You can directly import them from your computer to iPad through iTunes which means this app is good when you need to import a lot of files at a time. Cons: 1. I cannot still believe that there is no 'option' or 'preference' button anywhere in a $5.99 application. You should just use it as they made it. 2. This app does not allow you to fix the size of the pages as you flip them and it causes a huge problem, that is, if there is a blank page on your way in your djvu file, it seems that the app tries to detect something (a word, a picture or whatever it is that does not actually exist because you are on a blank page) by enlarging the size of the screen and the size of the page is fixed as it is enlarged for the next pages and the app ends up lagging and finally crashing. 3. It's $5.99. There are tons of great applications for PDF files much better than this app for free or only for a dollar or two but this app charges you so much more just because there are only few apps for djvu files out there. I was actually gonna call Apple to get my $5.99 back but decided to wait and see until they fix the problems and make this app better. Much better. I already bought this app and am regretting but if you are on this page to purchase this application, I hope my review helps. I cannot still believe that those picky users gave this app an average of 4 stars...

Satisfies a real need

Over the years I have accumulated lots of files in déjà vu format. They have the virtue of being very compact, but it is not easy to find readers capable of handling them. This developer provides a real service by creating an app that not only handles déjà vu files but does it so beautifully. When I first used this app I found a bug. Within an hour of notifying the developer I received a reply, and a couple of weeks later, the app was updated correcting it. The developer clearly loves this app and is determined to make it offer the best user experience possible.

Well defined djvu reading experience app

I've made sure that the djvu reader I found would be worth getting. I am very confident to say that this is app is exceptionally well built. From transferring the files to the iPad to basic reading nothing bad has come out of it. I believe the best part of this app is of course reading djvu formatted files, but the tool available and the UI that really add on to the djvu experience. Thanks creator of this app!

Best IPad DjvuReader by Far

Earlier, I had written a fairly critical review of this app, complaining that, although performance was good, the UI was very awkward. And I warned the dev not to sacrifice this performance in any updates. Well, the dev has come through in flying colors. The app is as zippy as ever, perhaps zippier than before. And I have the original ipad. Also, the UI has the main improvements I suggested: swipe to turn and status bar hidden. I had mentioned earlier that it was a tie in my mind between Stanza and DjVu Reader. Now, I think DjVu Reader is the clear front-runner. There is a new contender, SoleDjVu now also. It is cheaper, but the UI is very clunky (I have reviewed that app as well), and I recommend DjVu Reader for the time-being despite the higher price. To the dev: Keep up the good work! Don't sacrifice performance, and warn us if the an update is not appropriate for older ipads. Perhaps work on an iPhone version (SoleDjVu has a monopoly on the iPhone currently) or a lite version.

Excellent application

Thanks to the developer for giving us this much needed app. I used to view djvu files thru Stanza which is NOT a native viewer. What Stanza does is convert a djvu file into a format it is capable of reading, which is usually a cumbersome and lengthy process, producing a heavy file. I experienced many Stanza crashes. In contrast, Djvu Reader is a native reader, which opens instantly any djvu file (I've tried at least 20 files without any trouble). The image rendering is superb. Navigation thru the opened file is very smooth, with many options such as zooming, height fit (as opposed to width fit) and single tap page turning (as opposed to swiping). I hesitated a little because of the app price, but the investment is justified if you have many djvu files to read. This app has no rival at all. To the developer I would suggest the possibility for the user to add popup notes. That would be really great!!

Great app

I enjoy being able to read various books in this format that are otherwise inaccessible to me. The app operates smoothly and is worth the price.

The best DJVU reader for iPad!

That being said, the product seems unpolished. Also, the icon is so ugly. It works for what it's made for, and for that I give it 5 stars, but I would prefer a better and cleaner solution.

Keep working

e.g. Dropbox integration

Very Helpful

I have used this app for books from archive.org, when their pdf files don't show up in my pdf reader. This really does the trick. I would like to be able to add comments and also to see two pages at a time, when I so choose. But perhaps someday. For now -- Thank you!

Great App

I have tried a couple of "freebie" apps, and they are disasters! I think this app is very creditable. It does crash once in a while, but it seems to be well-constructed and sith time will only improve. So---five stars untill I see somethi g better, which I do not, as yet!

Huge Potential. I'm pretty happy with the reader.

I can tell the programmer has spent a lot of time making a pretty good reader. The reader opens all dvju files and has a very clear screen for viewing. My favorite part of the app is the file management system. It is very easy to organize files into folders. There are two areas the programmer needs to address. First, although the speed has gotten better, there is still plenty of room for improvement. Second, turning pages still requires hitting a small arow instead of swiping the screen. If the programmer can concentrate on improving these two areas with future updates, this DjVu reader will be 5 stars.

The best djvu reader for the iPad

I tried several readers and this is clearly the best

Sort of worth it

Extremely buggy. Crashes a lot. I was so excited to find an ipad actual djvu reader. (the only other option, Stanza doesn't work half the time because it just converts the files which takes forever and sometime doesn't work.) Now I'm just disappointed. I guess it's sort of worth the money because there is just no choice. It would be nice if you could swore to change the page. It's kind of ridiculous you can't swipe like every other "reader" app. It is only getting two stars because there is no other app for the iPad that does what it does, otherwise, it would be a 1 star.

Basic

For the price i would have expected something more polished. No swipes to turn pages, basically you have to tap on a navigation pane at the bottom of each page, or if you happen to read the manual you can tap the left and right side of the screen for kindle esque page turn buttons. Weak. There is no bookshelf, and thhe interface pretty much assumes you know to load books through itunes. All in all not worth the six bucks unless it undergoes some serious ui rework. If stanza didnt want to blow my files up so large i would never even have considered this app. Stay away unless there are some usability updates ahead...

DANGER - doesn't work

Doesn't work unless you have updated your iPad to iOS 4.2 - naturally the app store will let you waste your money on this app before it informs you that it can't be installed. Why should iOS 4.2 be necessary for a simple reader application?

Shaky

Doesn't size page correctly, no auto-fit. Interface feels overly-complex and non-intuitive. Low memory warnings on iPad2.

Nice app

Internet archiv has great books but with the limitation of PDF it was hard to read offline. This app takes care of this. It also allows you to open directly off Internet archiv website. Make sure to click on http download and choose djvu. Happy reading.

Oo

Crash. Spent money for nothing

An

Can not read some djvu files. Very slow. Some times generates "Low memory" message. Looks like beta version.
